Checkups & Cleanings
While brushing and flossing your teeth at home is absolutely essential to your long-term dental health, no oral hygiene regimen is complete without regular checkups and cleanings from your dentist. At Parkfield Family Dental, we recommend that everyone over the age of three undergoes at least two each year in order to keep their smile looking great as well as help them avoid the most common dental issues.
Why do I need a dental cleaning if I brush my teeth every day?
This is a good question! The short answer is that your tools at home simply can’t clean every single surface of your teeth. These hard to reach areas can accumulate plaque over time, and this can eventually turn into cavities. With a professional cleaning, your dentist will use sophisticated tools that are able to target these troubled spots to ensure that your smile is well protected year-round. Plus, it even gives your teeth a nice polish and helps break up minor surface stains!
What is an actual “checkup”?
A “checkup” is really just a more casual term for an oral exam. During this process, Dr. Tijerina will look at each of your teeth, your gums, jaw, and any existing dental work to make sure they are in tip-top shape. He will also review X-rays and images of your mouth captured by an intraoral camera. With all of this information, he’ll be able to determine the current state of your dental health and identify any problems you need addressed. From there, our team will go over your treatment options and help you decide the right plan of action. We can’t stress enough how helpful these services are. They’re fast, painless, and if you have dental insurance, they are likely completely covered by your plan. If it has been more than six months since your last checkup and cleaning, be sure to schedule one today!
